Biography
Xenophilius comes from magical roots, his family being an old pureblood family. His father and mother however, do not stick by any sense of being better than muggles or muggleborns. All his family before him went to Hogwarts, and were placed in Hufflepuff, which was where Xenophilius was expected to go.
His father is the exact opposite of him, dark hair and dark eyes with a loud and robust temperament. Xenophilius took after his mother, who is a lot more pale and quiet, but who was ill very often. His father doted on his mother and while he isn’t disappointed with Xenophilius, he doesn’t pay too much attention to him.
He was very much a mother’s boy, as she used to let him stay in and read to her while his brothers were out with his father. She passed on her love of stories and books to him, before she died of natural causes when Xenophilius was only nine.
He has two older siblings, both boys who take after his father. Xenophilius ostracised himself from the both of them at a very young age. They used to go out and play Quidditch or fight, while Xenophilius would prefer to explore the grounds imagining himself in thrilling stories and adventures, or just to stay inside reading one of the many books in the library.
His father was affected deeply by their mother’s death, but he tried to stay strong for his sons’ sakes. He visits her grave once a month, and has not seen any other woman since. It also affected his relationship with Xenophilius, for a year or two after her death he could not bring himself to look at the boy, he reminded him too much of his wife.
They lived in a large house with big grounds in the middle of the countryside, this left a lot of room for Xenophilius to hide and explore, so now whenever he is in a town or somewhere hard to get out of, he feels trapped. The first year of Hogwarts was hard because of this, but he soon got used to not being able to be where he liked when he liked.
He didn’t have any real friends before coming to Hogwarts, he felt that the people he could truly relate to were long dead and he had their books to get to know them through. They were mostly muggle novelists who he felt had more imagination than the magical ones. Oscar Wilde, Jonathan Swift and Robert Louis Stevenson were his best friends, Emily Bronte and Jane Austen were the loves of his life and Shakespeare was his idol.
Upon coming to Hogwarts though, he found himself well liked. He wasn’t one of the more popular boys, but one who was always willing to listen. His strange way of speaking and the way he blurred the line between fiction and reality in his mind, led him to be labelled ‘a bit mad’. It wasn’t a cruel label, in fact it made him even more liked and it was something that made people recognise him. This spurred on his wild ideas, as it gained him attention and soon it was part of him.
Although he is very clever and often asks questions which even the teachers can’t answer, he does not do particularly well in exams. His brain works in a different way from which essays must be written and questions must be answered, but teachers to appreciate that he is smarter than his marks suggest.
Family
His father is Nicholas Lovegood, and his mother was Cassandra Lovegood. His two older brothers are called Zephyr and Leonidas, all three of their names were picked by his mother who had a slightly eccentric taste in names. He is not very close to his brothers, and though they never fought with him, they never really tried to get to know him. They treated him as though they would treat a delicate sister, never getting rough with him but never trying to connect.
Personality
Xenophilius is often described as someone who listens well and is easy to talk to, and while this may be true it is often hard to hold a conversation with him as he is prone to going off the point a lot and asking the questions which should not be asked. His bluntness is rather temperamental though, sometimes preferring to meander around any point he doesn’t want to bring up.
He is very open to other people’s views and to experimenting new things. He has smoked before, but doesn’t do it regularly. He can talk to girls easily, but isn’t too experienced with them otherwise.
His diary is full of his philosophical and lifestyle musings, as well as the practical things of the day. He rarely uses it to explore his feelings, but nonetheless would hate for some private entries to get into the wrong hands.
He can do morally objectionably things, if he thinks the end result is more important than the moral dilemma. This has got him into trouble a few times. He also sees the quest for knowledge more important than other people’s feelings, and has a tendency to use people when he is not thinking.
Appearance
Xenophilius looks rather delicate, both his facial features and his body. He is a thin boy, with a pointy chin and normally a slight stubble, for he often forgets to shave. His hair is dark blonde and looks unwashed a lot of the time, however much he showers. His fringe often flips over his face, and he has given up trying to stop it from doing that.
He normally wears smart clothing, smart trousers with a shirt and sometimes a loose tie. This is more from habit, and the shirts themselves are often creased and the top few buttons undone.
When he is thinking he looks extremely serious, but once his face cracks into a smile it normally incites a smile from the other person.
He has extremely intense blue eyes, and you can tell when he is really involved in a conversation because they stare directly into the other’s eyes, while normally they vaguely wander over what is around him- even during a conversation.
